Do you have to log supervision in a week in order to claim workshop hours? The short answer…it depends. Read on for a detailed answer.
LMFT – Prior to September 29, 2012 MFT trainees and interns were required to log at least one unit of supervision in any week that they claimed professional enrichment activities. As of September 29, 2012 the direct supervision requirement was eliminated. Although direct supervision is no longer required for professional enrichment activity hours of experience logged after September 29, 2012, you must still have your supervisor approve the workshops, seminars, trainings, and conferences you attend and you must log the hours on a weekly log and Experience Verification Form. TrackYourHours applies the rule that was in place at the time you earned your hours. If you log workshop hours prior to September 29, 2012 you will receive an alert and hours will be automatically subtracted from your valid total if you fail to log supervision.
LPCC – Prior to January 1, 2014 LPCC candidates were required to log at least one unit of supervision in any week that they claimed hours for workshops, seminars, training sessions, or conferences directly related to professional clinical counseling. As of January 1, 2014 the BBS eliminated the supervision requirement. From January 1, 2014 forward you may claim workshop hours in a week without logging any supervision units. Although direct supervision is no longer required for professional enrichment activity hours of experience, you must still have your supervisor approve the workshops, seminars, trainings, and conferences you attend and you must log the hours on a weekly log and Experience Verification Form.
