The Governor has signed AB-456 which will make a number of positive changes to the experience requirements for LCSWs effective January 1, 2019. TYH will be updated with the new requirements on January 1. Here is a summary of the changes:
- The total number of hours of experience required for LCSW licensure is being reduced from 3,200 to 3,000.
- The maximum number of hours that can be claimed from the “other categories” (individual supervision, group supervision. workshops, seminars, training sessions, or conferences, and client centered advocacy, consultation, evaluation, and research) is being reduced from 1,200 to 1,000.
- Post-degree hours logged prior to receipt of associate registration will be claimable hours as long as the applicant applies for his/her associate registration within 90 days of graduating. This change only applies to those who graduate on or after January 1, 2019. Applicants who complete graduate study on or after January 1, 2020 must obtain this experience at a workplace that requires live scan fingerprinting.
